Comet C/2013 US10. Comets are bodies of ice and dust that enter the inner solar system from the outer solar system. As they approach the Sun,the heat boils the ice, producing a coma around the nucleus, along with a tail stretching out behind it. This comet was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey in 2013. It reached perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) on 15 November 2015. It originated from the Oort cloud with an orbital period of several million years, and is now thought to be on an ejection trajectory. This image was obtained on 8 December 2015 | |
