Ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta). This lemur is endemic to scrub and forest in southern and south-western Madagascar. It spends more time on the ground than in trees, unlike other lemur species. It mainly feeds on leaves, flowers and fruit, but will occasionally take bird's eggs and insects. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. Photographed in Madagascar | |
