Verreaux's sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi). This lemur lives in the rainforests and deciduous forests of south-western Madagascar, feeding on fruits, flowers, bark and leaves. It moves along the ground by jumping with its long and powerful rear legs. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. Photographed in Madagascar | |
