Crab Nebula. X-ray space telescope image of the Crab Nebula, which lies around 6000 light years from Earth in the constellation Taurus. This cloud of high-energy particles is the remnant of a supernova. In the centre of the nebula is the remains of the star's core, which has formed a pulsar,or neutron star, rotating 30 times a second and emitting regular pulses of X-ray radiation shown here. Imaged by the Chandra X-ray Observatory in low (red),medium (green) and high (blue) energy X-rays | |
