Sperm whale dissection. This dead male sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) was found on Henne Strand,Jutland,Denmark. The specimen measured 14 meters in length and weighed an estimated 30 tonnes. Dead whales quickly decompose. The resulting gases build up inside the body causing a danger of explosion hence the urgency for scientists to cut open the carcass. The tissue samples and skeleton will also be studied by scientists | |
