GPM rainfall satellite assembly. Assembly at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center of the core observatory satellite for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission. This is integration of the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR),one of two instruments on the satellite. The DPR is comprised of two radars: Ka-band Radar (13 GHz) and Ku-band Radar (35 GHz). The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) built both radars. The DPR was handed over from JAXA to NASA on 30 March 2012. The GPM satellite,which will calibrate readings from a network of other satellites,launched on 27 February 2014. Photographed in May 2012
