Forestier disease,also known as diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). X-ray of a 42 year old woman's cervical spine (neck bones,side view). This is a rare disease where excessive bone growth occurs along the sides of the vertebrae (back bones). This patient's cervical vertebrae have fused (arrows) as a result of the disease,causing pain and stiffness. Forestier disease is a form of arthritis,but the exact cause is unknown | |
