Coloured three-dimensional computed tomography (3D CT) angiogram of a 54 year-old man's aorta (left anterior oblique view). This patient is showing an unusually large aneurysm (red bulge at upper right). An aneurysm occurs when an artery wall weakens and swells like a balloon. If it bursts,an aneurysm can cause severe internal haemorrhage. This patient's aneurysm is in the descending aortic arch,part of the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the lower body. This aneurysm is at high risk of rupturing,and requires urgent surgery
