Cryptosporidium sp. protozoan parasite, composite 3D image. In green is an oocyst (reproductive cyst) in a spinach leaf stoma (pore). The Cryptosporidium sp. parasite causes vomiting and diarrhoea if ingested. This typically occurs by eating unwashed food. Stomata regulate the exchange of gases between the inside and outside of a plant. This 3D image is composed of several overlaid fluorescent confocal micrographs. The red spheres surrounding the oocyst are the plant's chloroplasts, the cells which carry out photosynthesis | |
