Comet ISON (C/2012 S1),time-lapse montage. These six images (moving left to right) show the comet from September to November 2013. Comets are bodies of ice and dust that enter the inner solar system from the outer solar system. Near the Sun,the ice boils,producing a coma around the nucleus and a tail behind it. Image dates are: 24 September,11 October,27 October,6 November,10 November,15 November. Formally C/2012 S1,it is also known as Comet Nevski–Novichonok.
