Lunar crater Posidonius. North is at top. This lunar impact crater is on the north-eastern edge of the Mare Serenitatis. It is 95 kilometres across and 2.3 kilometres deep. At bottom right is the crater Chacornac,touching the south-east rim of Posidonius. Satellite craters include Posidonius A (centre,11 kilometres across) and Posidonius P (upper left,15 kilometres across). The two satellite craters right of upper centre on the northern rim are Posidonius J (22 kilometres across) and Posidonius B (14 kilometres across). Image obtained on 24 September 2013 | |
