Lunar crater Gassendi at sunrise. North is at lower left. This large crater (110 kilometres across) is on the northern edge of Mare Humorum. It is mostly filled with ancient lava, leaving the rim and central peaks visible above the surface. Rilles (grooves) criss-cross the crater floor. The smaller crater on the rim at lower left is Gassendi A,with Gassendi B at bottom left. The rim varies in height from 200 metres to 2.5 kilometres.
