Walter Chrysler (1875-1940),US industrialist and automotive executive. Chrysler began his career as a machinist and engineer on the railroads. Chrysler bought his first car in 1908 and spent his spare time taking it apart and putting it back together again. When offered a job with the Buick motor company Chrysler jumped at the chance,despite having to take a 50 per cent pay cut. At Buick,Chrysler introduced production lines and other cost-saving procedures. In 1919 he moved to what would become the Chrysler Corporation.
