Diffraction experiment. Numerical simulations of the interference pattern produced by single-slit diffraction of a harmonic wave front moving through the slits from upper right to lower left. In this series, which goes from left to right along each row and top to bottom, the wavelength is reduced by a factor of two between each image. This causes 'shadows' and beam-like features at lower wavelengths. This simulation is shown as waves moving across a surface, but is based on the differential equations that describe dispersion-free electromagnetic waves.
