Spiral galaxy NGC 1365,infrared image. This barred spiral galaxy is part of the Fornax cluster of galaxies,and lies about 60 million light years from Earth in the constellation of Fornax. It is around 200,000 light years across,and contains hundreds of billions of stars. It is thought to very similar in size and appearance to our own galaxy,the Milky Way. Viewed in the infrared,detail normally obscured by dust in the spiral arms (upper right and lower left) can be seen.
