Black lemur (Eulemur macaco) male in a tree. The black lemur lives in forests on the north-western tip of Madagascar and on two neighbouring islands. It feeds on fruits, flowers, nectar and leaves, spending most of its time in the forest canopy. The black lemur forms small groups of related individuals,in which the females (coloured rust-red) are usually dominant. Destruction of the forests of Madagascar means that this diurnal lemur is becoming increasingly rare. Photographed in north-western Madagascar | |
