John Hutchinson, zoologist,in his storage freezer at the Royal Veterinary College,UK. Hutchinson is Professor of evolutionary biomechanics. He keeps many animal and bird specimens at a temperature of -20 degrees Celsius for research on animal locomotion. The image shows him holding an elephant foot. In 2011 he published a paper asserting that a small bony growth found on elephant feet was actually a sixth toe that helped provide additional support. All the animals were donated by zoos where they died naturally. Photographed in 2012 | |
