Bothrops snake venom. This snake venom (yellow) was produced by a Lojan lancehead (Bothrops lojanus). Bothrops snakes are venomous pit vipers. This rare and poorly known species occurs in tropical dry forest and is endemic to Ecuador. Samples of snake venom are studied to assess the venom's potency. The venom is also used to produce antivenom to treat bites by that particular snake. Photographed in Ecuador | |
