Moon transiting the Sun. Still image from a video of the Moon (black circle) passing in front of the Sun (red). Imaged by NASA's STEREO (Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) solar observation mission as scientists were calibrating some of the cameras onboard the STEREO-B spacecraft. This mission uses two nearly identical spacecraft (STEREO-A and STEREO-B) to enable stereoscopic imaging of the Sun and solar phenomena. The Sun appears red as STEREO views it in four wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light. Imaged on 12th March 2007 | |
