Pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) family. Pied avocets are large wader and migratory birds that breed in shallow, brackish waters. They nest on open ground, often in small groups, sometimes with other waders. Three to five eggs are laid in a lined scrape or on a mound of vegetation. They migrate to Africa or southern Asia in winter and feed on crustaceans and insects. Photographed in the Camargue wetland area of France | |
