| Golden eagle with its prey. Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) standing on snowy ground with a red fox (Vulpes vulpes) it has caught and killed. Golden eagles are found in wilderness and mountainous areas throughout the northern hemisphere and get their name from the golden feathers they have on their head and neck. Golden eagles eat mammals,up to the size of young deer,birds and,if necessary,carrion. The larger female eagles have a wingspan over two metres across. Photographed in Norway,in winter | |
