Spiral galaxy and supernova. This is galaxy NGC 5584,a barred spiral galaxy,which lies 75 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. The bright spot towards the bottom right of the galaxy's centre is supernova SN 2007af,whose explosion was seen on 1st March 2007.
