Bee-eater (family Meropidae). Most of the birds in this family are found in Africa, southern Europe,Australia and New Guinea. As their name suggests, they predominantly feed on flying insects, especially bees and wasps. A bee-eater removes the sting from the bee by hitting it on a hard surface, where the pressure of the impact extracts most of the venom from the sting. Photographed in Hungary in spring | |
