Chloroplast membrane. Coloured freeze-fracture transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of the in- side of a chloroplast's thylakoid membrane. The membrane is part of a granum,a stack of similar membranes that contain the green pigment chlorophyll. Each chloroplast contains around 50 grana. A chloroplast is a plant cell structure that is responsible for making food for the plant by photosynthesis. This is the conversion of light and carbon dioxide into sugar, water and oxygen.
