Sulphur sticks. Sulphur is a pale yellow, odourless, brittle solid, which is insoluble in water but soluble in carbon disulphide. It is essential to life, being a minor constituent of fats, proteins, body fluids and skeletal minerals. Sulphur is found as the native element in nature, for example in volcanoes and hot springs. It is extracted using the Frasch process, which allows sulphur to be extracted from underground without having to mine it. Most sulphur produced is used in the production of sulphuric acid, the most important manufactured chemical in the world | |
