Organ-on-a-chip artificial liver research. Medical researcher holding a microfluidic liver culture platform, an example of organ-on-a-chip technology. This artificial liver is used to simulate the physiology of a human liver, and to test the response to infection and methods of treatment. This research is being carried out by a group led by Dr Marcus Dorner at Imperial College London, with a focus on research into hepatitis B infections. The results of the research were published in 2018.
