Effects of atomic bomb tests, Nevada, 1950s. The Nevada Test Site (NTS) in Nevada, USA, was the location for a wide range of US atom bomb tests, including the destruction and survivability testing shown here. A range of structures such as cars, houses, bomb shelters and bridges, were placed varying distances from the point of detonation (ground zero). The NTS was used for over 900 atom bomb tests from 1951 onwards, with around 120 carried out in the 1950s.
