Fly laying eggs on meat, using an organ known as the ovipositor. Flies go through four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Fly larvae are known as maggots. The eggs are laid near a food source, such as rotting meat. The larvae hatch from the eggs and feed on the meat, sometimes going through several additional stages (instars) before pupating to produce the adult winged form. | |
