Green flash seen at sunset. A green flash is a short-lived optical effect that occurs when the light from the Sun is refracted by the large amount of the atmosphere that it is passing through. In effect the atmosphere acts a a prism, with green light being the last to be refracted like this. The flash is not blue or violet as those colours of light are most strongly scattered away from the line of sight by air molecules. | |
