| Loop-the-loop demonstration. Loop-the-loop is a vertical 360-degree loop of a roller coaster track. To make it to the highest point in the loop, the rubber ball has to be released from rest from a higher point on the track. The excess potential energy is converted to rolling (translation plus rotation) energy. In this image the initial height of the ball is high enough for it to make it to the top of the loop. This setup demonstrates concepts of acceleration, rolling motion, types of energy and energy conservation. Image acquired with stroboscopic illumination at 30 Hz. | |
