Christmas rose (Helleborus niger) pistils (centre, green) and stamens (lower centre, detached). The pistils are the female reproductive parts of the flower, containing a stigma (tip), style (stalk) and an ovary (bulbous). Within the ovaries are the ovules, the female gametes (sex cells). The stamens are the male reproductive parts of the flower and each stamen consists of a stalk-like filament and an ovoid anther, where the pollen grains are produced. | |
